I'm sure it's only 1/2 that off New Plymouth?

Hmm, tough choice then for a 5.3m tinnie. 40k is the furtherest I have been.
NP is tempting, but the fish population seems better out of Raglan, so far.
100m is 10k off shore for where I am, but no fish, so not much use.
Regards

Alan dont get hung up on the 100mtr depth ( referring to npl), yes sadly the marlin aint here in numbers this season but they are lurking, weather hasnt helped things!,  All the ingredients are there though. Quite a few fishos over the years have got them 10-15mins from port in the 50-80mtr no problem.. generally lots of life/ birds /bait in close and people overlook it and shoot for the horizon.

Thanks for that Pirate. yes, I would normally fish to the sign rather than any gps or depth numbers. The fish are where you find them.
But the local intel is invaluable. But if I was steaming towards 100m and came over good sign at 50m, the lures would be out, for a crack at least.
Thanks

When we were out 10 days ago there were huge schools of saury with Albacore, skippies and gannets chasing them all the way from 35m to 85m.  No Marlin seen but they will be there somewhere.

Tow your tinny up to mokau. Bar looks good for a few days. Fish from 35 to 45m north of awakino.

A question for raglan locals.Thinking about coming down for a fish out of raglan this weekend. Swell looking pretty small but morning low tides. Is this a problem with such small swell Forecast. Is Manu Bay an option??
First timer out of raglan for me but regular manukau and Kaipara
Spent endless hours surfing there in a past life so know how to pick a set.
Cheers

It's an 8:30 low, so if you are crossing within an hour of low you should still be ok with a metre swell. If you plan to launch early like 6:00 am which you probably will if you want a car park at the wharf, then I think you'll still be ok with an outgoing tide, and the tides are small this weekend, so there should be less tidal movement at that stage and more water on the Bar.

Low swell and small tides can cross any time really just may be a bit of joggle on outgoing tide
