Nice work Gowest.
Took one of my boys out today , made him watch a couple of game fishing DVD's yesterday , practise pulling the land cruiser in the harness and a general rundown. Well we were prepared and worked the hook area and slightly wider for nil.
However did find some nice temps up to 21 , at one point I was at back of the boat thinking I must have left some bait onboard from a few days back when I realised we were in the middle of some major bait action below. Could not see anything on sounder as my sounder sucks , next on the list. But no mistaking the smell , big area of oil slick and a few excited birds. Worked that area hard for a while , then a few hours later but , really thought something was going to happen , but not to be.
Still a great day out on the water , learnt more about which lures and where .Did hear of a striped T&R a bit further out.
I must of been more hungry than the fish so back to game club for a steak and something to wash it down to finish the day off.

One time, off Karikari up North, saw a circular oil slick about 100M diameter with lots of marlin...no livies and only 1 lure...got nothing out of it.
Awesome to see, though.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken

Anyone out yesterday?

Have been sitting on the sidelines watching my riggers gather dust waiting for this water to warm up... While earning family brownie points with in shore activity, I'm finally giving in to temptation and heading out for a look tomorrow from Tairua.

Not expecting much given we only had 16.8 deg in shore yesterday and 18.1 at the Aldies.

Decision time... Head directly E out to 1000m in search of tuna and warm water or head N-NE from the pins in 200m-300m looking for bait?

Yep he learnt how to drive the boat and drive down on a fish this time!!! And how not to gaff a fish LOL

Mate seen a heap of marlin smashing bait in 750m north of the hook on Tuesday but couldn't get a bite or catch a bait for a livey. They were getting harassed by albies up to 11kg

Quiet half day for us... Feels like early-mid December conditions out there... Cold, green water NE of the Aldie pins. One small albie came home.

Geez mate. I guess that answers my question. Looks like I'll be staying in closer with smaller hooks.

There was one T&R stripey called in on ch61 Dave, "350m E of Aldies, water temp 18.9", so don't let me put you off! There was also some good bait in 130-150m just east of the pins

Worked the hook and out to Ammo Dump area yesterday  , nice water although had a few lumps in it until mid afternoon it flattened out. Zero for us. There was report of a triple and quad of YFT on two boats , all fish landed so great effort.
As we were heading in heard a Blue was dropped out back of Ammo dump.
Need a good North Easterly blow to sort things out I think , sure things will start to fire about the time I have to go back to workCry
Warmest water we found was just out the back of the hook.
