Kontiki Fishing - Nelson Bays

I have just recently purchased a kontiki, am looking for good spots around nelson, motueka. wondering if anyone has any ideas?
also was wondering,
Do you still catch fish if you send it out on a low tide?

What bait is best?

How long is it best to send it out for?

How long do you leave it out there for?

What months are the best for sending it out?

sorry to ask soo many questions! Just want to get some fish as we haven't had much success with rod fishing.
