You deal with a NZ registered subsidiary of the Aussie bank not the Australian bank itself, so you could only be given a haircut here in NZ up to the losses of the NZ subsidiary. Having said that, the collapse of the parent company in Aussie would have a pretty major effect on the NZ subsidiary being able to stay in business.
