Since im new to this sport, can any one tell me the best way to load a speargun.  I can manage to do it, but it hurts like hell. Any methods or gadgets that make it easier?

Or am I just a weak youngster

does your suit have a loading pad? How longs your gun?
I struggled at first, but you get the hang of it

all part of the fun rusky especially when you mistime  loading it (more so with longer guns) and get a snorkle and mouth full of water... took me a long time (and I am also new to the sport as well) to be selective about my shots. Especially in a nice cold Wellywood winter when your freezing it takes alot of energy to continuiously load and reload a gun.

From the RA website:

This is a series of photos to help new users of the RAILGUN to load up correctly, follow the steps.

Do not load the gun out of the water.

1. Position yourself comfortably in the water, get a good grip on the handle of the gun with your left hand as you prepare to load.

  2. With your right hand, reach for the right elastic, pushing with your left hand.

3. With a straight right arm, wedge the gun handle against your chest with your left hand.

  4. Once the gun handle is pushed firmly against your chest, release it and use your left hand to grab the left elastic.

5. Use your chest to push and simultaneously pull the elastics with both arms towards the notch on the spear.

  6. Click the cable into the spear notch and the gun is ready to fire.

works great except when I'm freezing on the south coast after a few hours in the water....then all technique goes out the window (personally speaking)

Hey thanks Narsil fort those diagrams, I usually start from step 4 using both my hands and pulling with my palms up.

Maybe palms down might be easier.

Yeah, that's fine for a shorter gun. When I bought a 130 a few months ago though, I definitely found that I had to start with one arm grabbing the rubber and pivoting the but into my chest (I'm only 5' 10" though).

Had never really thought about loading technigue with my last few guns, which were only round the 110 mark.
