Have been down whitianga since Christmas day and have been lucky enough to get out a few times,

26th fished around the bay and the twins fished the incoming tide 6pm-9pm managed 2 legal snapper was slow on the bite also picked up one extra on the longline.
28th headed up to great mercury got some scallops in home bay very easy pickings at 15m fished around Gt Merc managed 6 snapper including one at 22 lb what I ended up successfully releasing fished from 1pm till 5pm
30th headed up to red mercury leaving cooks at 5.30am what a prick that channel is at the moment got there by 6.30 and baits in the water managed a good looking mixed bin of 8 snapper,2 trevally, and a few blue mao mao which were in plague proportions, got taken to the cleaners on a straylined trevally fillet finished up there about 10am and back to base

hows everyone else getting on down here hundreds of boats out everyday atm?

Nice fish Puke. We got out 6 times over xmas new year, Slim picking on the snapper front, but to be fair really didn't push to hard. Most time spent diving with the kids, plenty of Scallops and crays at the Mercs in shallow,  a fair few in soft shell. Gave the local Kingie population in the bay a shake up yesterday, Had a few hook ups but didn't stick, only one landed around 10kg.
Been abit of a mish launching and retrieving at Kuaotunu and Whiti. We managed but one does have to bite tongue at times, it can be frustrating.
Back home for a few days work then back up Whiti on Thursday.

Launched from Hahei Beach Saturday morning just after the low tide, about 9am.

Saturday 28 March
Headed out into a pretty sloppy sea back of Mahurangi Is dropped the longline in our usual spot in about 40m. Came back into the bay and drifted along the beach at the northern end and picked up 5 nice fish. Zman paddle tails in new penny and nuked pilchard. Back out to pick up the longline. Only a couple undersized snaps and one Kawhai that was smoked for lunch.
Couldn't buy a fish rod fishing over Xmas New Years so nice change to find close in. Turned out to be a very wet morning but the lunch and a few beers later in the day tasted that much sweeter and well deserved as a result.

Well done Mate. Yes its good to see a few Snap around now. We fished a Tournament weekend before last, Quite a lot of snaps caught, the heaviest around 7.5kg. Most of the teams managed fish but seemed to be plagued by under 30cm.
We drifted with Kaveman Kabura's off Matarangi- Kennedy bay area, No trouble filling the bin. Another member from here (Skunk) anchored on foul in 40m out from Ohinau. He also did well with his heaviest 4.5kg.
I'll be up there for a week over Easter, hopefully they are hungry.

Well done PukeFisher. We didn't do too well last few days. Too busy and clear for off the beach this weekend compared to last. Did alright on the longline Friday so able to feed the batch.

Been out last three day softbaiting the shallows around the islands. Fishing has been good, did have the odd quiet patch. One mid 70's, several in the 60's and lots more down from there. Sea and weather been good but got drenched yesterday. Been a lot of boats out over the Easter break.

Just got home after a few sweet days up Whiti. Weather was good and the fish played ball. Early start on Saturday, headed to a spot close to Oldman that has been fishing quite well for us of late. Had my daughter and her partner on board, showed them how to work the Kaveman kaburas, first drop he was into it, Daughter close behind, I hadn't even rigged my line and we had two fish in the bin. couldn't close the lid after and hour so spent some time showing them around Cathedral and Hahei.
Next day was a fish in the bay for Kings, Had a mate call in so it was a Boys day. We had a great time, kept a couple and released a few others.
Bit of family time after that day, biscuits are always fun, my young fella having fun.
