anyone looking at one of these or have been on one, looking at updating our taupo boat to one of these.

Classic design no matter how old.

Ive had a couple of SFs in oz. in the 20ft size i preferred the seafarer i had but i dont think we get them here.

Would like to see one of these new ones up close.

I had a SF535 for 13 years and loved it.  From the changes it looks like they have fixed some of the shortcomings including fixed rear seats and no room for an anchor winch.  I loved mine as a good all rounder with a slightly dated interior compared to Rayglass and Tristram.  I still think the ride is up there with any other boat in it's class.

It's a shortened SF600 hull according to HH, so wider than the 535. Had a good look over it at the show. Will undoubtedly run well, lots more room than the 535 which is good. For a new boat though it is quite out of date when compared to the other manufacturers. Have a look at a Buccaneer 565 or 605 and you will see a massive difference in the interiors, better utilisation of space and easier to clean.

Really disappointed with HH as they just haven't kept their top sides up with the competition. Would love to stick with a HH when it comes time to replace my 535 but it will more likely be a Buccaneer or a Tristram.

I’m really happy with the HH SF545, I agree with most of the publications reviews about the boat. I have also owned a Buccaneer 550 Classic and these are just my opinions on the comparison; The HH has a slight edge in performance due to the fact it gets on the plan faster (Both had 115hp Outboards), the Buccaneer is slightly more stable at rest, the HH has a more fishing room, the Buccaneer has a larger cabin.
I choose the HH this time as it intended use is more fishing, it’s a squeeze but you can fish 4 people with not too much trouble. The deck space on the HH is amazing, if I was to overnight more the Buccaneer would be the better choice.
I prefer the aesthetics of the HH as it’s a pure white and the hull liner makes it feel warmer. I have gone for the Limited Edition also which has a bit more bling on the inside.
However, over 6m I would be more inclined towards Buccaneer but I’m really impressed with the HH and have complete confidence in taking friends and family out.

In Aus you have HH and Seafarer. Ive had a big SF and a 6m Seafarer, I think the Seafarer is a better boat so I wish we had them here. But Id place HH a close second and maybe Id put Buccaneer up there.

Keep in mind SFs are designed primarily for fishing. In saying that any 550 you can sleep on just take a swag. i hate cuddy cabs that have those cushions then a pole footrest, make the swabs pointless.

Having been to a few boat shows, I found the cabin really low and small on HH, and as above mentioned a bit behind the times. Probably a Rayglass buccaneer or Tristram are better boats now days. But this is only my opinion... each to there own... I love the buccaneer hull it’s pretty good, Tristam is all round awesome but I ended up with Rayglass just cause it suited our family better...

I test drove Buccaneers and the HH 535 and 545 before settling on the Reflex Chianti 585. The HH price didn't justify the layout and lack of space, and the finish wasn't as nice as the Buccaneer.
Would have been hard to fish 4 from the HH but no probs on the Reflex

I would be interested to know how the Reflex has stood the test of time. I saw one the other day at the boat ramp with rust coming out of the stainless work. Have you experienced any issues?

What a blast from the past - forgot i'd even posted this.

No rust after 3 years but it gets a proper wash-down after each outing and basic maintenance. It does sit under a carport or have cover on when outdoors but any boat will have rust if you don't look after it.

Always loved the look of the hh 535. Hansome boat.
Carpet and vinal interior, small cockpit and battery on floor have always made me wounder how they would stand up as a hard out fishing/dive boat. Only been out in one once. Had a yam salty 130 on the back. Certainly fast enough.

Re rust coming out from under stainless fittings, my son fits boats out, he always uses silicon under any stainless bolted to fiberglass, as it is a known problem
you can't fix an idiot with duct tape, but it does muffle them for a while...

yes - i see this not being done too frequently - as you say, a lot of the issue is related to fittings not being bedded appropriately.

i also note - that it is commonly called stainless - and not stainfree
No disintegrations!

Yep like all steels different grades
Yep your stainless knives will rust, and so will a lot of bolts washers etc if not rinsed, and you will find it is still magnetic. ..lower chromium content (bit simplified for those who want to split hairs later)
Then we get into food grade 316 grade and above.. not magnetic, will not rust, very very hard.. lends itself to heat hardening, so if going to drill it.. never stop for a rest even once or the drill will burn out.
And it is very brittle, doesnt carry stress sideways so never use it ot lower grades for suspension , holding up wobbles etc.
Never use a stainless U bolt on the trailer (any WoF inspect worth their salt will fail it unless it has been certified.

And if thinking .. "what about the stainless bolts holding the outboard on?"  No they are not stainless.. cant rem off hand the alloy name.. but they are specialist alloy bolts that look like SS.

Anythings are made of steel brass/ chrome plated , or brass/ chrome plated...like bollards etc because SS is not suitable for the loading.

Even outfitting a boat/ trailer takes expertise, training and knowledge.. just like a tradie builder has over a hammer man.. or a plumber has over a person on the shovel.
