Sadly, all the action is on Facebook now. I have reluctantly embraced it. There are ways of managing it in to a forum more or less.

After writing several reports on various locations, Coromandel down to Opotiki ways, hardly getting any response or none at all, I gave up. Left me wondering if they even get read at all. I do realize my article writing skills are poor at best. But no responses makes it feel like a complete waste of time. I know several other ex forum members that feel the same way. As a result, they no longer contribute.

People are reading, but not posting. Even this thread has had nearly 300 views. It's the same with all forums across sports and international borders. Does anyone remember Kayak Fishing NZ? I learnt a lot from that forum, made some real mates and went to a few social events and competitions. It's now as dead as a dodo.

Yes, Facebook is a pain in the arse. It's a cross section of society, so there is no shortage of idiots. It's been an eye-opener to see how many stupid people there really are out there! Join a group(s), only post in that group(s). Deny all friend requests and be very heavy handed with the block button. An extension like Facebook Purity makes it usable by getting rid of advertising and all the stupid crap. It's not ideal, but it's what we've got.

What about Auckland yakkers. Click on any recent post and nothing appears. Banana boat ,you posted there today. Clicked to read---nothing but blank page. So something not working there.

People prefer facebook for their own reasons. I'm still here  Big smile. No doubt some people blame the 'system'  for the downturn in forums such as these. But yeah, you can get anyone to agree or otherwise on social media. You can soldier on here and get 10%  of bad information or choose 90%  on poorly managed sites ;)

Yes, but the owners here are really assisting this site's demise. For example, I think I have reported the issue with Auckland Yakkers thread to Grunta since December, and despite being acknowledged, it isn't rectified. And that is the only thread that still gets regular decent fishing reports.

I still read the Tauranga and Rotorua Lakes reports, but they're pretty sparse. I do appreciate the people who take the time to post reports, and I should do the same whenever I get out (not often enough). I'll make the effort to at least add a 'like' whenever someone posts.

I deleted my Facebook account years ago and have no desire to go back there.

Whatever happened to the Catch of the Day thread?

With the passing of Catchelot so was the passing of the thread.

About a week or two before Catchelot passed away, he sent me a pm requesting I keep the Catch Of The Day and Caption This thread going. My post were deemed inappropriate ( maybe some were) and subsequently deleted or blocked.
Not sure if either threads exist anymore.

Boooooooo

I try and keep the bopyakmen thread going but it's just not happening. That thread was humming for several years. The various kayakfishing Facebook groups come and go to in popularity as well.

Looks like you can only search back 12 months at the most.

I spose we just have to keep posting I do really enjoy the reports on here and I will make an effort to follow guys posts.

I for one haven’t done anywhere the amount of fishing this year to last year with all this wind that’s been around. I didn’t take my big tinny over to corro at Christmas time which meant I could only go out in my little quintrex so I only got out twice.

Weather looks to be coming right now but I have noticed the water is very salty which is an indication of low oxygen levels. Could be the reason for crap fishing today.
