Hi there,

If you're talking about soft baiting - which is the forum you've posted in - then I'd recommend not getting the Shimano combo you've linked to, which is a 6 foot fibreglass rod. I don't think they are suitable for most types of soft baiting. And there's no use for a baitrunner function with soft baiting - it could be used for straylining when you're not soft baiting, but it's more the rod which isn't correct in my opinion.
The Daiwa combo is a composite rod, not full graphite, but that would probably do the job - depending on what you hope to achieve. The old Okuma X Factor was a composite and fine for pannie fishing for snapper on softbait.

Many of us softbait nuts spend a lot on rods/reels, but plenty of good fish get caught on comparatively budget gear.

Daiwa RX LT 4000 combo; or
Shimano BR 4000OC

I would take a look at the 2nd daiwa 4000 rx LT combo with the 7ft 6in medium heavy rod in the Summer Stunners. The choice you have linked to is a 7ft rod which is classified as heavy by the looks of it. The 2nd 4000 rx combo is the same price but I believe a better option for softbaiting due to its increased sensitivity.

Have to agree. A baitrunner combo isn't a soft bait set up. Yes it will work, just no where as well as a dedicated soft bait set
