Whol! Is that purely for weight saving? Would imagine the bearings internals etc would get a hard life from the salt wouldn't they?

No not totally, although it does weigh 648.5gm now. The idea here is to have a reel that can be washed down inside and out with fresh water. The cut aways could be less or leave bars to stop anything getting in there. I am going to fish this reel through summer. As I would any other reel. After each use I will be hose it with fresh water as I do any other reel. I have picked Accurate because of the quality of the materials they use in there reels. Also note I have used rubber sided sealed bearings through out the reel. The frame bearing has the inside rubber seal removed and repacked with grease, the casing it sit's in has been packed with grease. I have done the same with spool bearings, i.e the center of this spool in packed with grease. Along with the drag cam and side plate bearings. So each bearing has one open side with a holding of grease behind it. The AR bearing has the DFS heavy duty high pressure oil seals each end and main shaft that also holds oil inside it and throws out into the center of the AR bearing as the reel is turned. I have lost some free spool with the grease and rubber sided bearings, but I don't use any weights under 4oz so I don't mind. I think as long as I leave the drag up when hosing or getting wet in a boat it should be pretty good. I am just putting the idea out there that a reel that is designed to have water go through it maybe better in the long run re servicing....I will be posting hosing down etc as it happens through face book on Accurate Fishing Down Under.

Wow definatly could change the design if it works. I'm sure sure see salt trapped inside reels causing corrosion everyday so this sounds like a solution
