But that is what normally vaccines have to go through waynorth. All the vaccines cited have taken years to develop and there are still loads of people who think they can cause issues.

You will have to acknowledge that since the bad orange man was cited in the previous page that he enacted the cutting of all red tape to enable the speed of the work and bypassing normal vaccination criteria testing. Operation Warp Speed and if anyone says Trump is anti covid vax I will fact check that now he is not.

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/basics/test-approve.html#devtest

That is the normal process and takes years.

Even the flu jab in some years is way less effective that sometimes they wonder if it worth doing.

Keep saying it but it has to be free choice let people decide for themselves. The more you give up of free will the more will be taken away from you.

No not really fish feeder.
It’s one thing having an opinion and disagreeing it’s quite another when it actually comes down to putting stuff in your body though you ain’t ready to have yet.

Especially when from what I was told today 80% of Auckland has their first jab. If true well that’s most of the way there. 90% might well be possible.

Kitno's post above sums it up well.

It's looking like proof of vaccination will be a pre-requisite in many countries to do a lot of the things that we took as normal until this pandemic turned most people's lives upside down.

So if you're going to need to have proof of vaccination to travel, go to the pub, or socialise then it will be interesting to see how many people change their simple minds!

Grunta is right on that too fishfeeder.
Countries opening up restrictions are requiring fully vaccinated status. Or if you test negative you still get restricted.

I think most kiwi businesses will go down the same road too. Already said that’s the main reason I got mine.

That’s going to be a fact of life.

well...Im watching a livestream from melbourne with 16k watching tradies in construction say no to the vaccine mandate they are being forced with.

they are outside the construction union building now. All them simple people fighting for their personal choice

Lets see how that works out for the construction trade.
I dont doubt that our govt will do the same....Biden is trying the same thing for 80-100m people.... it wont work.

Yes - normally. But because of the nature of this beast, we can't wait 10 years, or 5 or even 2.

Unlike polio, seasonal flu, diptheria, measles, mumps, yellow fever, etc, our options appear to be lockdown or vaccination. This one spreads faster than a conspiracy theory, and does even more damage.

Sometimes there is no perfect risk-free solution. We just have to be smart & pick the best option. Looks like 9 out of 10 kiwis know what that is.

Well fishfeeder you and I both know the reality that some people just won’t have it. As annoying to some that case is.
That is why the government that says it cares should look at alternative treatments too. They are available and need to be part of the solution.

Yes that will be enough by all estimates apparently.

Go on give Trump a bit of credit 😂

Thanks and I'm glad you saw what I did there. If you can't see what's blindingly bloody obvious then there's not many other conclusions I'm afraid.

The stats are irrefutable - unvaccinated people are getting really ill and are dying in greater numbers and it's not just old folks either.

I've said it before but here it is again:

There's two ways to build antibodies and that's a vaccination or contracting it  - and oops the 2nd option isn't looking particularly smart  - see above.

Alternatively retain your freedom to choose and be locked out of many options as the world returns to some semblance of normality.

There's also the cost to us all for looking after those that get severely ill and require hospitalisation. It's not the government that funds that it's all of us who work damn hard and pay our taxes so maybe that's worthy of consideration.

Vaccination seems to make sense no matter how you view it.

Nope FF2  -  you're assuming I'm assuming that and you're wrong. It's not what I said at all - what I'm saying is that it's all taxpayers who'll be funding treatment of people who get sick and it's clear that non-vaccinated people are significantly more likely to end up in ICU.

It costs around $6K per day for an ICU bed according to the DHB info I could find and that's money that could be spent elsewhere.

So the question is then "Is it simply socially responsible to get a shot? For those who elect not to then be prepared to accept the future consequences of that decision.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time but hopefully you'll see some logic in what the vast majority of New Zealanders are thinking and you'll give it due consideration.

Please show the same level of patience and restraint if by chance you are infected with Covid-19 and require emergency treatment,  perhaps stay at home and dont risk the health of nurses and doctors by asking for a ventilator.....

Well, I dunno.... covid, schmovid.

All I can say is NZ cannot keep shutting down every few months when the latest variant sneaks in. We're going to have to live with it like the rest of the world is.

I think..... get vaccinated. Reduces the risks of covid BUT, yes, is not in itself totally risk free. I have, reluctantly.
But...also, particularly if covid gets loose in the wider community, get yourself some booster shots of vitamin C and D.... not just pills, but an actual injection to really ramp up these now widely recognized aides to our immune system.

Next....look into any other possible anti covid drugs.
Fluvoxamine... shown to seriously aide in recovery from covid symptoms especially "long covid" after effects of both covid and the odd vaccine reaction.

But I think it is up to us all as adults to take whatever steps we feel appropriate to look after ourselves.

Get vaccinated is, on balance, a good start. If not, and I can certainly sympathize with those who strongly feel anti this Vax, then at least go the vitamin C and d boosts, try to get fitter and healthier as obesity is a major amplifier of covids effects, look into other treatments which may help.

Oh, by the way, the Solomon Islands has been vaxxed now. No radical ill effects that I have been told of, and they had theirs many months before we got ours!

Anyhow, stay safe folks, take all reasonable steps to protect yourselves from covid. But there's no need to hide under the bed and cry about it!
