Ah interesting stuff edge01, congrats on finding the fish. There was alot of fish on the sounder out east the other day too, they also wouldn't take anything for ages. Must check out the asari katana - sounds such a cool name!

Flat as glass Wednesday alright. We were out from Te Puru, managed a feed of small pannies. Tough fishing in the shallows with the sun out. What does a asari katana jig look like???

yeah 3 of us were out last week and the orangey Asari jig caught 13/20 vs sqid & pillies alone.

I've been usuing the Asaris for 2 seasons now & they are dynamite. I use my normal softbait rig with 8lb fireline & 80-100gr depending on drift speed. They sink like bricks. Just cast them ahead a few metres & hang on. In a work up the wll get hammered. Once on the bottom work the last metre of water by setting the max drop to stop just short of the bottom then quietly lift the rod tip up & the jig will flutter back down. 90% of hook ups will occur on the drop back down They will also catch well left in a holder like a Lucanus. A word of warning.... Kingies love them so be prepared to get busted off if they are around.
