Matt do you still have the paperwork from the comp? Would love to look over it and try to figure out who has my weight belt.

Could not have thought of a worst place to dive then Kaikoura during a competition. I went almost as far as possible in the other direction to a pleasant bay in the outer sounds. Was barren of fish life, only saw a couple of Gurnards but was nice place to explore away from the crowds.  Really need a boat to do the outer sounds justice.

Militaris, did you shoot the gurnard?
Why would Kaikoura be no good? I heard it was a pretty choice place to dive

First one I saw I thought it was dead, so I swam down to have a closer look and it swam away. Second one was cruising out of range.  Made a few kina berley piles to see if I could attract any in but only spotties and a wrasse were interested in them.   Next time I visit I might plant a proper 1kg burley or two and check on them every so often.

Kaikoura is a great place to dive (maybe to great for its own good), but it is normally very busy. Just thought it would be a bit chaotic with the added pressure of the competition.

Hell Mili you don't even know you're alive!  I shore-dived two days in glorious conditions one of them in a comp without bumping into a single other spearo in the water and I didn't see a single float on what I'd consider prime ground ie the rocky points.  You should come and dive Ti Point or the ChicksSmile

kaiks is a very special place. Amazing numbers of fish, a couple of top eaters. More crays then you can poke a stick at and reasonable viz a lot of the time.

Yeah, dive in the heathcote river if you want pristine clear water! Looking forward to this weekend, looks like the north side of banks peninsula the only place to go.. south side looks ugly according to marine weather..... any words of wisdom?

I'll take your advice Wetfish. If the Heathcote is anything less than pristine I'll head to the North-side of the Peninsula but that's not looking the best either. If I head to the bach I'll let everyone know, all welcome to drop by for some brews and a bbq.
