Counted 7 in that photo,,, a mcfetridge park pasting.. I need to retire my dropper rig , the one I had was not my best work, but I thought gurnard were dumb … mine was tied very badly compared to past more successful efforts… thanks for tips Dave on yours they need to be stiff  and short enough to stand off main trace but still supple enough for gurnard to suck in.. But your rig was clearly better , ruling out 500m apart spots and bait of choice,  also bigger circle hooks I m using than in past may not be helping.  Always thought gurnard game was all about finesse,  which I clearly forgot and was lacking in yesterday.

I use 18 kg -24 kg mono Brent. But trick is distances loops are from trace and sinker, I actually cut loops trending up and tie to single strand of mono, leave one slightly longer drifting down to sinker and top one shorter to putrude out about 4 inches. Not as easy to tie perfect ones as you’d  think, even though I tied quite a few. You usually know a good one once you’ve tied it. Hold it up and will look right. You want bottom hook leader close to sinker but still presenting a  tiny bit off sea floor once deployed at the angle of drift. The guys in Kaipara run a different rig , heavy sinker then  three droppers attached to a lighter sinker at end. Never tried that but guy spoke to today (seemed to know a bit re gurnard rigs) mentioned it how they fish over there. Seems overly complicated but each to their own.

Just in time for big gurnard run with cooler weather Brent. See you out there, although more likely to run into Dave, especially on beautiful calm days mid week.
