![]() Cheers Shaneg. Looking for recommendations on a hybrid live bait rod if anyone has any feedback.. will be an upcoming bday present. Trying to decide if I want a light stickbait / livebait spin rod, OR a jigging / livebait rod (and then slow pitch or mechanical??) I like the look of this but it's out of stock: https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/shimano-rods/shimano-energy-concept-svx2-spin-jigging-rod-5ft-pe2-4-2pc ; |
![]() The Shimano spin-jigging rod and the Okuma 10-15kg softbait rod both look perfect for your purposes:). I bought a new softbait rod myself last week, an Okuma Kotare 6-10kg, it has a nice feel. I asked the youngster in the shop what his favourite softbait rods were, and then picked them up, put a reel on, flicked them around-I have barely a clue how to choose a rod:), but I'm glad I did this--I was killing time waiting to pick someone up, as I was really struck by the different feel the rods had, I went with the Kotare because I liked it best, I couldn't put it into words exactly what that was, it was the weight, the balance, the whip and god knows what else. Catching a fish on the rod has revealed even more, but picking the various rods up was helpful. I've bought most of my rods online, got lucky with a few and unlucky with others, some have only been used twice, I just don't like them. So my schmucks advice is go to the shop and flick them around a bit. |
![]() It was good to see the Admiral out there today, Shane god bless made an rare appearance on the waves, but he left early so missed my heroic, majestic surf to shore, the waves were at least .2m high but I was masterful, and was greeted on the beach by Campbell Bays other distinguished kayaker, my neighbour with an Olympic appetite , so I gave her a fish:), the neighbours on the other side cut our grass, so they got a couple of fish too, it was fun day. |
![]() Pretty consistant there Mr HY The weekend gone I went with east auckl kayak fishing club to Papa Aroha, drank heaps laughed lots Bunch of us went to Tuateawa, just nth of Kennedy bay Probably the first time I was comfortable doing softies & micros..... still stuck in the past with baits, which is best on my home grounds - Manukau Kept a 40cm snap, released about 9-10 snaps up to 37cm on softies, also had 2 unstopable runs on Kaveman 30g orange Hornet, that fell off soon after... my best ever time on lures to date... think I got this thingy sussed Kingaling Go the aliexpress reel eh I have an old Kastking Valient used for micros, got it off aliexpress. Far out, for a cheap throw away reel, its been pretty bloody impressive. Needs a bit of grease on the drag washers to get it more silky, but as is, no complaints I will pair it up with a proper rod to balance it out, have got an old school jig rod thats probably better with mono on it, not a combo with braid Looking at a Penn Regiment black ops 10-74g for my micros What combo are you guys using for micros |
