back in the UK, they use to get annoyed when i referred to the thames as the muddy!

Fisher and I went out this arvo on a entirely new spot near hatfields taking advantage of the 'calm before the storm', hitting the outgoing to low. It took awhile for us to find a good casting spot and for the bites to come. But when it did, we had a lot of runs although it was within a very short period with the addition of me having my first catch of a 'black belt'.. A couple of wee ones thrown back and kept a couple above 35. All smiles driving back home with good time out on the rocks. Will surely go back to this spot as it looks very promising on a good day.



This thing feels and thumps like a snapper while I was reeeling it in. It was complete utter suprise Shocked.  It ate the whole pillie of the hook.

Just be very careful on that walk down there... although there is forms of footing along the way - it gets very sketchy - especially afta more rain which is comin ... nice haul anyway Thumbs%20Up

Nice work Kenshin and Fisher! looks like a tastey dinner and probably breakfast too!

I did the same, but a bit closer to home, went out to St. Helliers and fished a rock that requires a hip deep wade to get too at low tide. got one small Ky as the sun was going down which took the hook in it's throat, so was bleeding alot.
Once it got dark, the tide turned, my fingers neer froze solid, and the snapper started to bite. They were all very very gentle bites, had to feel carefully and let them have a bit of time to eat the bait before striking, plus they were quiet suggish for the first few seconds after being hooked.
Came home with the kahawai, a 34cm, 44cm and 45cm snapper, should keep me well fed for the weekend Thumbs%20Up

not a bad swap for 7 small pillies, a takeaway container of salmon pellets and a few KM's of cycling....

...mind you i think my nads have retracted into my body from when they touched the water wading out there, the temp has dropped allot over the last month.

Nice work on the snapper...
 
Those eels can be a real pain... I was fishing up Whangarei at Christmas  and thought I'd hooked into a nice snapper..... was pretty gutted when pulled a 130 cm eel to the surface... Wasn't to bad smoked though!..

Yeah, Kenshin and I had fun on that bit between Waiwera and Hatfields.  The walk over wasn't too bad, RU4REEL, are you refering to hugging the cliff bottom when tide is up?  We found we could just walk on the rocks, quite flat too.  I seem to remeber a post where OneLeg said he nearly got burried by a slip.
I notice in the local paper that they have just discovered a slip on the cliff below Kennedy park just south of Campbells bay.  Rockfish and I spotted that about a month ago.  Looked very fresh.  Apparently no-one knew about it (council that is, I guess all the dog walkers and fishers did)  I would have thought that the owners of the house which lost about 50m2 noticed, their garden just shrank by a lot. The slip is full of balustrades and plantings.   Not a place to have a house, those mudstone cliffs.
Hey Kenshin, fancy a fish tomorow?  Looking at the forecast, Monday is going to be ok before the next load of ****e weather.  Also, rumour has it that the fishing should be good after the storm.  Anyone else?  Looking at late PM.   High tide is at 2:30pm.

Its gonna be all work for me fisher this week, and Im virtually grounded at home. But Sat is looking pretty good forecast both weather and bite wise Big%20smile. So thats a mark on the calendar for me! Its true about the good fishin after the storm.. but not really right after.. say after 2-3 days is what I read about. And the water is gonna be brakish and a lot of loose debri IMO. So again Sat is for me.. and Its an open invitation to anyone around.

Weathers suppose to turn nasty during the middle to end of the week. Hopefully it's nice on Saturday I'm on a  charter trip for the day. Be nice to get out again as been grounded at home working on some new projects so fishing is on the back burner for now.
Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

Got out for a local fish last night to try the last hour of the outgoing and a few hours of incomming. Took just the one rod and a few pillies, fished alot of weed lines up the coast looking for snapper.

First bait out got a couple decent runs but no hook up, then went quiet.  Cubed a few pillies up and moved on. Didnt get any takers from the other spots i tried so as the tide came in filling my gumboots up i moved back to my first spot. Deployed half a pillie on the mainline and 3 or 4 mins later brought in a very sluggish 35cm snapper ( relseased). Few more small bites on the half pillies, so decided to get a bigger bait out there. had to wait a good 5 mins before that got smashed but no hook up :( . Had lots of piper in close and a ray rubbing up against my boots. Left at about 11pm just as the tide started flooding in quickly.
