Fished the Manukau Harbour at the end of Aldersgate Rd in Hillsborough.  Low tide, wind-free and clear skies.  Ideal conditions for casting spinners and hoping to snag a KY or trevally.  According to a mate, the Kilwell emporer toby is an excellent lure, so I bought 10 x 10g and tried them out.  Not much happened. No bites, no fish breaking the surface, tad dull really.  I worked my way to the right from Aldersgate road, concentrating on the points, and the areas each side of the points.  Took just over 2 hours to walk/fish Wesley, Faulkner and Waikowhai bays, and finished on the eastern point of Wattle Bay, below Wattle Bay Lookout.  Excellent day, but the fish didn't cooperate.

lips/hooked - liked!
Keep the reports coming!  I would like to see this topic (Anyone get out today??) with almost daily posts.  I've got new surfcasting gear and the thing that would get me out there using it would be a few good reports.

Thanks to the replies, I went out last evening, usual places from just after high 4pm ish to 730pm lost a few fish after hooking up but might be time to put new hooks on after being a bit slack on replacing them!
But caught a kawahai for dinner.
Will try again later when it cools down a bit. They were biting for a change

I got out last week. Surfcasting off Opotuere Beach. Fished over low in the evening for nothing. The next day a neighbour wanted to test out his new fishing drone. We ran out a 6 hook set line first to 400m and then came back and took my surfcasting rig out to 280m. We ran it twice over a few hours. Nothing again. Was mid-beach close to the bach, so probably locate closer to the estuary mouth next time where the action is more likely to be.

Have been in deep thought about a drone! but here it is hard enough surfcasting with rips etc so can only imagine 3/5 hooks and a shorter rod!
Last few days, 6 kawahai over high to low on sat , nothing sunday similar time and place and today from 1hour b4 low low till 8pm, 2 1/2 hr on way in for zero.
Not thru lack of trying

6 Kahawai...nice one! Yeah the drone setup was pretty mint. About $2k for the setup which included an electric reel and as you say, a shorter rod. Suits the neighbour who is going to tour around NZ in a campervan and doesn't want to tow anything.

Drove the west coast beach from baylys to the bluff looking for a spot to cast!   Nasty ugly/ dirty and big, 1/2 tide in and sweeping up the beach and lots of soft sand!
