I expect OP is an abbreviation for Orere Point.

Yes Orere Point. No secrets just an abbreviation. Bit of a drive depending on where your coming from, but typically fishes well all year round.

I use to love fishing at OP.  It sounds like it's been hard going recently.

Was back down to OP Sunday morning with high hopes after the weekend before. Paddled out in the dark and got to spot before sunrise. Straight into the little ones with inquiries nearly every cast. Lots of throw backs and lots of tailgrabbers all morning with 3 in the bin at 9am I gave it one more drift and bang bang bang picked up 4 more in about 10mins. Had the wind and tide on my side for a nice paddle home. Sold the boat last week so looking to get a replacement FF. The Hummingbird helix 5 did 9 years so wanted another but the new transducer won't fit my hole. Any suggestions? What is everyone else using ?

7 snaps 38cm -43cm.

Drill a bigger hole mate, slap the bloody bog in eh
Yup, get another Humminbird helix mate, they're really good. Most guys I know run them... my helix has side image, big learning curve, but well worth learning
Mate of mine has the Helix mega DI 7in with the transducer inside the hull of his kayak, its just the water temp not an accurate reading
You could also try humminbird johnson outdoors to get the correct dimensions of the transducer... it just might fit the scupper in your yak

I recently picked up a second hand Viking Profish 400 which is fantastic, but I have one query that I've not been able to find an answer for anywhere. I'm hoping there is some knowledge here that could help.

There are three cord stays on the right side just above the paddle keepers. The image shows them in the green box. I cannot figure out what they're for. Not one of the reviews I've seen have even mentioned them and they didn't seem to make it onto new models so I guess they weren't that useful. Anyone here know what they're for, or have any use for them?

Hi nzfletch. I’m pretty sure they are for a fish stringer. Tied to the inside of a catch back in the rear well. The ss stringer is wedged between all 3 points, you just pop it out to use it.

Not strictly Auckland, but not too far away. Decided to have a look at the Kaiaua farms on Monday and take advantage of the light winds. Paddled out first thing and found a nice looking spot, in 9 meters, between a laden row and a harvested row. A little slow to start, picking up the occasional pannie. A couple of hours in, a light bite became a decent run. I hit it and all hell broke loose. Luckily he took off under that harvested row, which gave me a chance. 5 mins later, a solid 13 pounder popped up. Pretty stocked, but still had bait to use. 30 mins later, another good run and on again. Once again, it headed under the harvested row. Another intense fight and a 15 pound snap popped up. I was feeling pretty stoked, particularly when using 6kg line. Decided it was a good note to end on, so home I headed. Strips of salted trout were the magic ingredient when it came to the bait used.
