Many ways to fish a bugger pattern.

You can use split shot by all means or simply fish it as is.

Change up your fly line to a sinker or intermediate to get a bit of depth.

I know when I tie up buggers in any style usually for still water applications, I have a few with lead wraps in the under body and some with a tungsten bead heads and even some that are unweighted.

Covers all bases.

I know this is an old post.
I am new to fly fishing.

May I know,
A) do you use this just like any nymph fishing? I mean, put a split shot and make it go deep down?
Or
B) more at the river mouth just like wooly and strip in.

Hi
I just learned to tie Adam's Dry.

A) I fished with a emerger about 60cm under. But the Adam kept sinking. I used mono line to the Adams.
I applied floatant to the Adam as well.

Is there anything I can add to the trying process to enable it to float? I tried with a rubber band but useless.

B) has anyone use this Adam dry in Taupo Rotorua region? If yes , which is the best month to use?

The shape is right with the carrot profile.

Top one looks like a cased caddis and the bottom one a net building caddis.

Just make sure the colour of the material you use is similar to the substrate of the water and surrounds, although there are definitely variations that lean to a cream colour of the caddis!

Your body material looks like it would be able to take coloured marking pens like light brown, tan, olive green (my favourite) etc. With a bit of coloured ink, you're able to open up a whole new world with this as you continue your tying.

Make sure there is a bit of under weight to get the fly near the bottom too.

Fish them with confidence.
