Hey everybody. We are a group of 4 guys heading up to whitianga from the south island for a week in hopes of having an epic fishing and diving/ spear fishing holiday. Boat is rigged up for every kind of fishing, from bottom fishing to game fishing. Just wondering if anyone can point us In the right direction as to places to go to catch/ spear some good fish. Hoping to get everything from john dory, snapper, deep sea fish, some good kingfish and hopefully some game fish. We are only there for a week so will only be catching enough for a feed, a lot of catch and release. Hello, was wanting to do a trip to the top of the peninsula within the next week or so but haven't been around the area that much so don't know a whole lot. Was thinking of just going to the right at PJ and going over the hill to one of the ledges down there? Will be after kingies and snapper. Be good if anyone can help me out.

Yes there is a ramp fee & is a rather sophisticated unmanned setup
re  space booking & payment. As far as I recall no problem ramp launching at any point of the tide but there is one point of the outlet that can rather shallow at low tide.

There may well be some public beach launching spots but don't recall seeing any & if so would probably be via tractor only.

Hi there,
Fingers crossed we can still get up to Cooks Beach from Wellington in January. Keen to get some info on how best to get the boat (Reflex Chianti 485) on and off the water. Am comfortable beach launching if needed. Couple questions...
Do people routinely launch boats my size off the beach? How much does tide effect that? I have pulled boat/trailer out via a strop before if needed/practical.
Launching from the ramp looks like a good option however is that an option at all tides? Looks like it's long route out/in. Google earth has a good view of the route but keen to know if that is still current or if I should talk to a local prior?
Understand there's a daily charge for ramp access which is fine; no issue paying for convenience.

I’ve heard that Rhino’s Horn is a solid rock fishing spot in the Coro. North of papa aroha.
Problem is, I can’t find it on google earth, or maps. Can someone point me to it?
(Or to a better one?)

Hey mate,
The red X's fishes well on anchor through the tides, stray lining baits,
Blue line there are some deep holes. big eels in them too.
black arrow holds baitfish and kahawai on spin lures,
on the bank with the black circle holds some good trevs, on smaller hooks.

Generally the fishing is better in  late Jan- march,

you will get gurnard in the harbour if the bar is flat, if the bar is breaking right across you generally dont get gurnard as they dont like going through the white water of the bar.

 Kawhia Hi all keen fishermen and ladies I have booked a charter with crazy horse  fishing on the 6th January in Kawhia we are needing a few more to join us to make the trip worthwhile currently the weather is not very favourable so Paul the skipper has said we can go around the harbour to catch some snapper and scallops this will be a fun trip prices normally 150.00 for full sea charter but this will be halved please send me message if keen to join us.
