Are you a keen stickbaiter like myself? i am trying to get a crew together of dedicated stickbait and popping aficionados for a week on Christmas Island 31 July -- 7th August 2018. We can fish inshore in the giant lagoons on Christmas for GT's commonly around 40lb -- 50lb, although there much bigger fish there as well as bluefin and golden trevally, and of course bonefish on fly. Offshore is where it gets exciting -- we fish for XXXL GT's, yellowfin, wahoo, sailfish, and there is also plenty of jigging for just about every species imaginable including GT's. Your arms will be stretched to their limits! The cost for all flights ex Auckland via Fiji, accommodation, all meals, 2 or 3 per boat depending on numbers, all guiding is NZ$4000 which is extremely good value for 6 days fishing. The purpose of the Pacific destinations forums are to provide a place where we can all share travel information for those who might be heading to one of our wonderful pacific island destinations for fishing holiday.  If possible keep each location in the same thread and just add to it. Your post will initially show as pending & be made live once approved by the admin team to enure the threads are concise and informative as possible.
 
Topics might include:
  • Trip reports
  • Types of fishing in the area, species caught and best times of the year
  • Species info – locations/areas/spots, techniques (Best lures, poppers and stickbaits & how to rig them - wire etc)
  • Local charter and guide services
  • What tackle and techniques for each species – rod/reel/line and terminal tackle to bring.
  • Fishing people can do themselves – landbased etc
  • Travel information and tips, mobile phone options etc e.g: By a local sim card if you're in Vanuatu. Coverage is excellent and it's cheaper than paying NZ$3/min plus your plan charge to Vodafone!
  • Best anchorages
  • Bait and tackle retailers
  • Accommodation options
  • Food and resturants
  • Other activities and attractions
  • Relevant website links

If you want big GT's - New Cal can be a great destination and with the right team looking after you, it's great fun, reliable, fishy and offers excellent value.

Yeah pieboy98 mentioned Tonga/Hakula lodge and looks great for a fishing only holiday but we are also going for some relaxation. Cheap too! Maybe next time.

Kenshin my father is Malaysian and I have been back to Malaysia many times, next time I'll be going to catch some of those sailfish for sure!  Man that dude in the 3rd vid got smoked pretty quick! Not enough drag applied though by the looks of it.
