Saragosa is good, stella is better. But as you know the saragosa is about half the price but not half as bad a reel. The stella is about double the price but is it twice as good? Confused yet?

What I guess I am saying is for NZ conditions ie kingfish, I think I would buy two saragosas as better value than one stella, or one saragosa put on a sweet rod is better than a stella on a budget rod.

If you are planning on fishing for GTs in the tropics, whole different set of rules, stella all the way for me.

But either way whatever you buy, stella or saragosa are both good. I have often heard the saragosa referred to positively as "the poor mans stella" i.e it has many similar components and parts to the stella but without the price tag. Shimano crew on here will know all the internal specs, details etc.As has been said saragosa is bang for buck and really good value, stella is nicer though so tough decision.......

just my opinion, many others will have different ideas than me.

We caught 10 GT's in about 2 hours time. Six to me and 4 to my mate. Start to like it more even with the slower gear ratio. Just have to wind a bit faster. See photo's. Nothing big but up to about 30lb. Good fun. So I'll let you all into my dilemma, I've got a $500 voucher to use at a tackle store, and I'm looking to upgrade my topwater setup, currently running the above rod with a Stradic 8000. Will be looking to get a new rod in the next 12 months or so.
Do I,
A) buy a Saragosa 10k which I'd pay nothing for
Or
B) pay $900 for a Stella 14k with a view to an upgraded rod in future

It cast just as good and didn't have much trouble stick baiting with the saragosa, I will say that when the wind got up and we were really moving with the drift it was a bit easier with the stella having that bit faster retrieve. All and all everyone was happy with the saragosa mainly coz of the price and it going to do the job just as good, if you r looking at just landbase fishing I wouldn't go past the Saragossa.

Did you read that? What i found is that a faster retrieve gaining line much faster than a slow retrieve and i do like less winding. A 5.7 gear ratio with 122cm line gain is much better and easier on the person that 4.9 and 102cm line gain. But each person differs and that is my opinion only.
