Hey Laidback thanks again for your input! I am truly looking forward to the trip been dreaming of fishing the very far north & Maria Van Demon in particular. Think I'm probably suitable equipped from a gear point of view hope my skills are upto the challenge. Really looking forward to flicking that Carpenter BF on my new Shimano Ocea 802 & as per your response to my post about the Stella vs Sustain will be using the Stella when targeting the big ass green backs.

Very nice Pete...Lionel is a top bloke(Fished white island with memory makers) and will do his best for you......You sound like you will be well armed and ready for battle....I agree fish the stella 10K(use that up there) and the bluefish....what king could resist that? Saffa & Laidback thanks for your input boys. my heart say "have a crack with the Sustain it will be a good sporting fight" my head says "put the Stella on so you can give it heaps if you need to". Got a trip booked to far north with Lionel think I might let my head win when I fish up there but may let my heart Win when next fishn in the Gulf. you can still drive a porche at 100 k's an hour......just feels smoother than most at 100!
same applies to the stella.
you could have a play..loaded up with a mate and a set of scales and get a feel for how many clicks on the drag button......you would have a rough idea where to go then and not beyond.Wink
IMHO id always prefer to have power in reserve......than push a reel to its max.

I don't think you will use to much drag, even 10kg is plenty. My mate caught a 84 lb GT last weekend and we test the drag afterwards and it was only 8.2 kg. That rod will easily handle 50lb braid.

I suspect that I need to be a bit careful not to put too much drag over it when using the Stella & don't get under gunned if I use the Sustain on it. Will try both & report back with findings. lifetime of the braid is a lot shorter than the lifetime of the reel.

Not seen the sustain but on a recent trip to vanuatu I observed the Stella and used it as a comparison to my 18000 Stella both were impressive in cast distance and retrieval rate. I could definitely cast the 10000 all day it was a nice unit.Can't remember the rod unfortunately.
