Most on the drop, a couple on the retrieve so they will definitely hit slow jigs (got frustrated with them after a while as it was like trying to get through kahawai in a Gulf workup <img src="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" />&nbsp;).&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Picked up 6 or 7 a couple of years back on Lucanus lures around an anchovy meatball out the back of the Mercs too- this was after trying with kingfish jigs first so the slow jigs are worth a go</div>]]>

A sinking small stickbait has the advantage of being able to reach some depth if the fish are sounding, but can be cast at schools without spooking them, a sinking popper with a small face like the fisherman popper pictured will cover a lot of bases.....]]>

Alabacore are not normally on the surface especially those winter models. <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Alternately, look for vertical sub surface schools as you're trolling and then stop on th sign and work your stick baits.</DIV>]]>

Will take my jig gear as well.<div>And and one more, can anyone suggest a good place to find livies in Tauranga harbour?
