Any BX Accurate can be swapped from 6.1:1 to 4.1:1 just by swapping out the main and pinion gear.
It costs $50 and you keep the spare gear set.

Well, I don't know where you're buying your JM bearings from but $30-40 sounds too much. I have never seen a JM reel have the bearings, "fail multiple times" as you put it. If you don't look after your reel then expect to deal with the consequences. Incidentally, if you're putting $5 dollar bearings in a JM reel then almost certainly they are not stainless steel or of a very high quality.

After owning a JM and having the bearings fail multiple times even after cleaning, having to replace "genuine" JM bearings for 30-40 bucks a pop (go to any bearing shop like Mana seals and bearings for 5 dollar replacements, which are generally better quality) I have switched to accurates. They are of far superior build quality and engineering. After making the switch, I would not touch a JM reel with a 20ft barge pole. 

The only downside/change has been the higher ratio of the Accurates making it slightly more work to wind with the larger BX500/600 etc. A friend recently used one of my accurates and when comparing it to his JM, described it as "a real Mans jigging reel"
