Tipper...the idea of this forum is for everyone to have their say without some judgmental prik come down on them(making it personal)...my advise had its place and was to the point(like sam said)..unlike yours, which is just plain rude.Cant you be friendly? Or is it beyond your brain capacity?

LBD is WAAAAYYY off the mark if you read the initial post - $450 budget. Some of us have families and budgets, or in my case I blew last weeks wages on male escorts.
 
I have the Saragosa 18000, but want a Saltist 6500 (tackle envy syndrome methinks), and find that this budget CAN work well,  just not for chasing Tongan monster GTs, or Ranfurly 35kg freight trains.  18000 also swaps to a 180g jig rod for vertical kingfishing at a stretch.
 
But how many of us ever go to these places regularly ? (When I occaisionally do, I use the Skippers Stellas LOL)
 
I took the good advice of Yeeha, who understand my budget, my skill levels, local fishing areas and my patterns, and they have not put me wrong yet.   A Stella is simply not the only reel that can land inshore kingfish.

I don't think LBD's advice is foolish...

The "Stella" always seems to ruffle feathers, but if a budding topwater fisherman takes LBD's advice they will be in good steed.

Fin nor offshore 9500 is another option $300 approx, a little heavy but one tough reel (27.2 kg max drag).

My 18000 is an awsome reel. You don't need to spend extra money to catch a fish bro, sure the stella is nice, but its not going to land anything that a Saragosa wouldn't straight out of the box in NZ. 

Great reel, very nice drag.

Only down fall, is the silly cosmetics fall off.....

How do you mean undergunned there JK? Drag, capacity? I run a Shimano 8000 size ( sustain) and think it's got sufficient drag and capacity for off the rocks. They pack alot of drag for me to hold onto and effectively fish from the rocks. Do you think a larger reel would have saved you?
I personally rekon it's part and parcel of LB fishing, just kinda tough from the rocks when they get up and boogie, and found less drag in such scenarios will better stop their runs and settle them down often rather than dialing it up.
