Nelson boaties pay up

The Nelson City Council has already more than tripled its revenue from boaties since threatening to tow away vehicles of ramp users.

Recreation and community services manager Andrew Petheram said $12,600 in ramp fees had been collected between July 1 and January 7 compared with $4000 during the entire previous financial year.

The charge for using the boat ramp increased from $2 to $5 last year.

But Mr Petheram attributed the increase in takings solely to the introduction of a new bylaw giving the council power to tow away vehicles belonging to ramp users who had not paid.
