My reason for going with the 20000 is that i never know where i'll be fishing next, as i can be in wellington one week, then kerikeri the next, then the BOP the week after that. As i enjoy all types of fishing i have to go with what will cover 90% of my options, and settle for what ive got the last 10%.
Hence the reason for my orginal post. In no way do consider a 20000 a waste of money, though having seen the vid of the kaibutsu snapping i am now concerned over my choice of rod!!!!!Shocked

as Ben says, depends on what you are doing.
Generally - top water use higher speed gears, jigging use slower speed.  This applies to the Stella 18000 vs 20000.

Yeah see thats totally different to what i was told by certain members of the "trade"! One went so far as to tell me i had wasted my money and that i needed to buy a 10000Confused(same retrrival rate) and i waste wasteing my time till i got another reel! I know these guys need to make money, but it wasn,t even what i'd asked them about! I know a 20000 is heavy weight, but my out fit has the same balence as my salmon rod an reel(diawa firewolf/banax iso 5000), like you said Capt'n, its how you use it, not how big it is! Hi all, newbie to this forum, so here gose i'm going to ask a question that some may think really DUMB!!!Embarrassed
I have a stella 20000sw, when i compare retreival rates with the 18000 the difference is only 10inchs per crank of the handle less than 1/5th a turn of the handle, now dose that really make THAT much difference? OR are northerners just soft and afraid of a little hard work?
