Have always wondered why alot of the people who get there nickers in a twist about a semi in the bush will also be using a semi auto shotty chasing roosters or ducks.
Treat every gun as loaded, does not matter how it reloads! If your not safe enough to trust with a semi the your not safe enough to trust with a bolt gun.

Hate the synthetic stocked short barreled jobbies Thumbs Down as they often tend to make even a lightish recoil worse than it should be. 6.5x55 has a light recoil for a 600 metre plus capable calibre.About par kickwise(or lack of kick) with a .243 i have to say.
But then again, after i got a 9.3x62 a few years back i dont really notice recoil in lighter calibres LOL ( It's got a mans recoil  Ouch,the 12 yr old wont even hold it if its got a round chambered anymore,the wuss.)

Though for a good first or sec rifle i seriously doubt you could go past this  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=456829385    Brilliant calibre and i would certainly buy it myself  if i hadnt already got 2 in this calibre.  Almost no range limit and will drop whatever you like with pinpoint accuracy and next to no recoil.  Just saying.
