Schooling kings of the size in the photo are up for anything and i dont think you can guage the lures affectivness in that sittuation. When you sight a big beast by itself i think it may be a better test. The starwalker baits in kahawai colour has been the goods for me. For a lure under 50 bucks they raise some pretty good fish. First time i used the 200mm wide glide and second cast.... has now caught a few that have been over 10kg, which is the toward the top end of the fish that im targeting. Been using a few starwalker sticks have a better action and are easier to work but haven't yet caught anything around the size of the fish on the river2sea.

I actually prefer the Doggie lures to either the rover or the wideglides, but that is just me. Once I can get a Wideglide in pink (so I can see the damn thing in the water), then I am sure I will like them a bit more.
The Rover is kind of a cross between a stick and a popper. Interesting zig-zag action on it too. definitely a surface lure though, as opposed to the wideglide and doggies being sub-surface. At least on the surface you get the buzz from watching the fish coming in behind the lures a lot ore. :-)

Yep I know what you mean, I had a ball fishing small poppers in Rarotonga in September. Got some good fish on them up in the tropics. Can't remember if I have got any kings with one yet though, although that is just due to a lack of trying, not a lack of success.
The current boring colours are due to be amped up before long, as soon as current lure stocks here, in Aussie and the states have dropped to the level where they need to make more.
It is a fairly slow-action lure though, doing the big rips to get them to work...well, it doesn't. However, the slow action means the lure is actually in the bite zone for longer! :-)
Recently in the Sollies I used the little 120mm ones, and had a lot of fun with them....
