I had a pretty successful day casting the other day, have been getting good distance on even small poppers.

Using the new Power Pro Slick - seems nice.

Found kingies like poppers and baits that look like the kind of fish/ bait that they would typically feed on. Not saying that they wouldn't devour anything thrown their way when they are hot on the bite. But all those fluro and bizzare looking poppers best suited for GTs IMHO. Hope that helps. Oh and enough leader for a couple of wraps around your reel and lure sitting between 1st and second guide or thereabouts when casting. Casting from rocks might be a bit different thou, I don't really know.

Check out that guys spool, it is so over loaded. That is why he is getting the cross overs and that's why he would get a wind knot. Sure those will give you wind knots, but easy way to avoid = don't overload your spool with excess line. The septic yank in that video has typically done more talking than thinking and has kind of missed the point.

I've used alot of different brands of braid and some are definitely more prone to wind knotting than others. There are a lot of causes of wind knots and loose wraps are one of them so always good to quickly check your line after each cast.

They are explained alot better in this. They go onto double footed half way through.

not that those guides are the complete pancea

Good quality casting braid - I've never had a wind knot with the stuff I'm using, it cost a bit up front but worth the investment.

Only use stick baits now, and only seem to need one carpenter gamma as if there is a kingfish around they just can't resist them. One off investment for 5 or 6 good fish to date and still doing the job.
