    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=41948">flyfisher</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 73353<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 16 Jan 2012 at 9:18am<br /><br />I've used silicone spray for 10 years with never a issue, rubbers all good and pliable still, metal well protected, water beads off surfaces, I even coat electrical connections and have never had a problem - it definatley keeps moisture ingress and surface rust away if used regularly, salt has trouble sticking to it.&nbsp; I have never experienced any of The Dogs issues though, but agree if you ever need to paint anything it's bad news, but can't see why you would under an engine cowling anyway.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=41540">The Dog</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 73353<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 Dec 2011 at 4:35pm<br /><br />Silicone spray is a house wifes myth, its good for nothing I tell ya nothing at all. <DIV>I have seen switches and&nbsp;electronic components destroyed by silicone, upholstery, paint and all sorts of stuff that has been killed by silicone.</DIV><DIV>If even a micro spot gets on any surface that has a current running through it, it will form into a carbide (a very hard substance that is not very good at conducting.and eventually in sensitive electronics this will mean dead to thems.....&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Painters hate it also , plague of the modern world</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>CRC is not going to protect anything its the same as washing it in solvent</DIV><DIV>( itll be bone dry in about a day)</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Lannox and Inox are mildly better at lubing and protecting, being based on lanolin they arent going to cause the problems solvent based lubes will.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>But my advice on an engine is dont use anything on it, the factory coating will be fine IF and its a big IF</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>If you keep it clean , warm soapy water and a rag is the answer.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;(car wash detergent is best as it is a mild detergent not a strong harsh one)</DIV><DIV>Keep every nook and cranny clean and dry all the time , like you would/should &nbsp;your cars paint.</DIV><DIV>If you do this religiously and thoroughly you will have no problems.</DIV><DIV>First big clean can be a mission but if done right its a simple easy task to keep it clean and corrosion free....</DIV><DIV>Clean is mean anything else is a compromise....................</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Once its all clean and hunky dory</DIV><DIV>use canuba wax on it (car polish type product) this will eventually soak into its pores and keep it easy to clean and good to look at.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>]]>
