    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=65516">Bunzo</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 72569<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 28 Nov 2011 at 4:26pm<br /><br />This is an answer to Neps&nbsp;question&nbsp;on behalf of this topic to an Aussie forum, the answer is by Carpenter reps Tak Otsuka and Jon Li.<div>&nbsp;</div><div>Jon:  "YTK when hooked will try to run into the rock, but the most critical time is when the fish keep the fight till the side of the boat , it will dive suddenly and if given to take line out will for sure head into the rock and cut the line off so the angler must resort to " no line out " drag setting to subdue the YTK , this sudden dive which creates peaking of drag must be absorbed by the rod and hence the design of BLC blanks&nbsp;are made quite different than most GT rods in the market ". <br></div><div>Tak: "Andre - the second number of model name is the strength or power of butt section. It generally indicates how powerfull each rod is but same as max drag rating, this is more comfort fishing rating rather than actual breaking strength.<br>Rory - Only BLC's max drag is rated in different way from all other series at 0 degree, rating&nbsp;on other models are at around 45 -50 degree, Carpenter did this not for confusing anglers and as Jon mentioned this is because BLC blanks has been designed on different concept".</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=53891">sid fishus</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 72569<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 23 Nov 2011 at 9:43pm<br /><br />My rusty Japanese from the above carpenter site gives me.<br /><br />First letters are the rods name <br /><br />First numbers are feet in inches length<br /><br />Second numbers are Lb of drag, there does not appear to be any mention of rod angle in relation to this.<br /><br />The rod power is referred to as in ul = ultra light on up to  medium heavy etc.<br /><br />Then rod action, r = regular, etc<br /><br />5 appears to be type of carbon, elasticity, wall thickness etc.<br /><br />6 is bait cast, spin.<br /><br />7 is guid placements, ie finesse, acrobat cast or spiral.<br /><br />Ie bc74ulr is black current 7'4" Ultra light regular action.<br /><br />]]>

What I think is that the BLC rods ( ie Kingfish rods )&nbsp;have their drag and power rating measured at 3 o'clock as Boulder says , or 0 dgrees , and that GT rods are measured at 45 degrees! So the EP 85/36 would have a max drag at 0 degrees of about 16kg (36lb)&nbsp;but at 45 degrees is only the 10 kg.</P><DIV>Could well be wrong about this but it explains why the EP has such a relatively low max drag compared to even the lightest Blc I own.</DIV>]]>
