yep yep for sure! haha the other day the wind was a *****!! and changed and went across the beach so i mega tacked it and got it past the last waves!!! came back with 15 KY!! haha i was amazed!
i put the sky hooks on and use a 15 lb mono. it pulls out alright, but i should have gotten the 2 kite system.

doesnt really matter whats used for bait,sharks will take almost anything from what ive seen.
yeah any heaver than 65 and it will struggle.
My kite struggles with it in any winds under 20knts,its hard keeping the line out of the rip when you have let it go all the way off the spool,and its not really a good plan to stall it and try to get the mainline out of the water on its way out,just tangles the backbone and gives the crabs more time to pick the bait off.

Wind is ideal for West side tomorrow. Pity the tides are **** for heading up the beach. Away up North next weekend so think I'll stay home and earn some brownie points this weekend.

hey mate if u are gonna convert it to a dropper rig 65kg line is the heaviest line you would go for,any heavier that that and the kite will struggle to hold the line up and out of the water. if your goin to get 200lb plus then make a bottom long line? iv only used mullet on my long line. not even squid! scared the bloody sharks will bite the line! hope i can head out to muriwai on sunday!!

itll be good bait,long as its not too soft.
Thaw it out and stick it in some rocksalt to harden it up and draw out the moisture.
bait for longlining is more about the strength of the bait,crabs will yank off soft bait before the gear is set,also it gets washed off through the breakers

Yeah I will have to see how I go pulling out the line. If it doesnt work I will have to talk the misses into getting a Yak to take it out.Big smile Yeah I think a mate might be heading out on Sat so I might have to tag along. thatll work alright i reckon,mite be a bit hard pulling in 100kms of line though :)
West coast is on from tomorrow onwards till most of next week.....i might aswell make a hutt down there.

So far for the setup I have 100km main line with somthing similar to this on the end

As I am only going to be using it without a Kite I have it setup very simple just attached to the main line and will set about 12 hooks with a huge weight on the far end with 2 smaller ones between the first hook and last.

That one has crimps on it - probably no drama to convert to a dropper later and you can use any longline traces/clips.
