Man, they make them like that on purpose they are not supposed to fit flushly together. You will do more damage forcing it together. They are designed to have a small taper to allow for wear so it will never be  a sloppy join. The dry glide experiment is currently underway and if that fails I'll go with car wax.

They are made to allow for wear ,as in it wont go all the way in when new but in a couple of years of putting it together and pulling it apart it will ,so a little gap from new is meant to be.

Ok I used normal candle wax and it was still a b*arch to get apart. Having said that, it did come apart. Hopefully like most things it'll loosen after a few insertions?

Rub it on the scuzz from behind your ear, side of nose or hair - depends how scuzzy you are, no doubt you'll have a scuzzy mate close by. 

My Kilwell surfcaster came with Rod wax for the joints.
