There is a lot of solid advice here!
I think I will start with varying leader lengths, mono brand, FG not PR and casting technique. Getting out on a charter hopefully next week so will give it another decent crack then.

I used to have issues with wind knots casting Suffix performance, I don't think it is a true 8 carrier dyneema weave braid, and is not the best casting string on the market. I posted up here about it and put a lot of advice into practice from members here, and I stopped getting wind knots; quality supple leader, playing around with leader length, ensuring tight line wraps on the sweep and wind motion, changing the distance the lure hangs from the rod tip when casting etc. etc. but probably most importantly to keep the focus and engagement in what you are doing throughout the process, even when there is visuals of biguns frothing the surface behind the lure and following under boat, that is; keeping the anxiety in check.

I dunno about that fireline Phil, it's the ultimate light string for light tackle work, especially this new fireline exceed, but more a kin to stiff rope over 20lb, but then again that's just from me fondeling it in the shop, experience would talk more sense.

Ditto above re braid,I use ultra PE8 its 113lb Smile and the PE 5 was rated to 78lb  maybe I got the "special stuff" along with Kev and Jas Embarrassed

I dont get them, wind knots that is or hot women,most jokes,respect from peers,invites to partys..Stern Smile
 
Currently using Daiwa boat braid becuase that is what it came spooled with,no problems so far..but I will replace it prior to a trip abroad at the end of the year.
Before that I have used YGK Ultra,and whiplash.
 
I think the braid has a little bit to do with it, but more to do with casting direction - for example castiing into the wind.This is when I have had wind knots in the past,so suggest it is to do with the line slowing through the air?
If its windy I bring out a heavier lure,more than likely it will also suit the water conditions. 
 
Combine this with the correct weight lure,not too light or heavy for the set up you are using,a nice streamlined leader system,good casting technique and feathering the spool with the plam of your hand/finger tips once the lure reaches its max distance and starts to drop.
Also mending the line so it is taught on the spool prior to the next cast I think is important.
 
I cant put my finger on one cause but more little things combined.
 
I know guides etc have a bit to do with it but I have fished identical combos side by side other anglers and have seen knots when the other had none.

I run a shorter leader than previously described with the leader being between the reel and striper guide when casting, it has helped eliminate wind  knots, as well as ensureing the braid is not to fill on the reel. In addition I currently have some JB60 on the reel which casts pretty nice

I have had issues with braid wind=knotting up here as well so have reverted to the old stand-by of using Fireline. Problem solved. So, for me, I would look at getting that although Fireline is pretty thick, not nearly as thin as normal Braid.
So, for me, for casting, Fireline.

LOL It varies between different braids bro and is a rough guide,not a precise statment....eg ygk jigman x8 pe8 is 80 pound/ygk Jigman x8 pe6 is actually 70 pound(if you wish to be precise about it) but varivas pe8 is 110 pound...so your above Statement is not set in stoneWink
