For GTs, I have not had much luck with the Doggies.  It could be I am working them wrong.  I find that they corkscrew when even moderate speed is put on them.  I would be interested in what techniques anyone uses for the Doggie.  On the other hand the wideglide and the rover have worked rather well.  The wideglide swims really well even at speed.  I am going to try mine trolling one of these days.  The Rover was a pain in the arse to figure out.  I got one for Christmas from my son and figured I had to fish it.  I tested it at home and I did not like the way it worked.  I took it out one day and tried to use it as a stickbait and saw nothing.  Then one time I ripped it in and the lure started chopping at the surface as I bounced the rod tip.  It sent a bunch of water flying and got hit for the first time.  I have continued this method and have had clients use it and it continues to be real productive.  Needless to say, I no longer have that lure, as a tank came and stole it.]]> Tue, 31 May 2011 19:10:14 +0000 https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65913&PID=950310&title=new-toys#950310 <![CDATA[New toys.... : Capt Asparagus wrote:Just...]]> https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=65913&PID=950117&title=new-toys#950117 Author: laidbackdood

the pic doesn't show it that well, the bottom is a mirror-shiny chrome. The gold one looks very sexy to me, just the colour of a lot of the schools of trevs and buma up in the islands. Should be fun trying them out anyhow! ;-)

I have used the rover 230 a lot and they dont work well with your standard "sweep and wind technique" In fact they swim poo like that....I just do short stabs with the rod and they walk the dog very nicely! Try different actions with them...."sweep and wind" is not the only technique for stick baiting! Some have rattles and some dont.Experiment.Wink

Those are a sinking stickbait. They should run just below the surface (or deeper if you wait a bit), try a rod sweep and then a wind up with the bait under the surface until you feel the waggle.

Will behave like poos, with a fast retrieve across the surface, if that what you are doin.

The gold one looks very nice to my eye (actually they all do), although I suspect that the top one pictured there might be my favourite, don't know why, it just speaks to me.... :-)
