    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=102009">Mc Tool</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 64723<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 28 Aug 2024 at 5:11pm<br /><br />I used to catch heaps as a kid at the wharves in port Nelson ..... now there are fences to stop&nbsp; such behaviour.&nbsp;&nbsp;<div>We used to get into the rubbish bins at the back of some fish and chip shop ( probly Guytons&nbsp; &nbsp;like 1976-78 ) and get&nbsp; all the crispy batter bits they scoop of the top of the vats&nbsp; and&nbsp; chuck them in&nbsp; and try to jag herrings with a treble hook ( the water was boiling with fish untill they had eaten it all ), we also had a sort of net made from a push bike wheel and chicken mesh . Good times&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>]]>

There is no size limit.]]>

Lately i have wondered why no spotties in the gulf. And here it is. First one i have seen in auckland&nbsp; east coast. . Male and female can be quite different colouration. A look on the web should find pics showing the difference.]]>

In the sun it shone pink and blue, quite a pretty fish. I caught it at the ladies bay stairs in Auckland. It was a little bit under 25cm and I couldn't find it on the nz fishing app so I wasn't sure if there was a size limit or not. I'm guessing it falls under "all other finfish". <br />]]>

Hard to tell from pic if male or female colouring. What area was it caught.&nbsp; &nbsp;Have caught a few near rocky zones near manukau heads up to 30cm long.&nbsp; They seem to increase in numbers further south. Wellington and ,marlbourgh sounds have plenty.]]>
