Pretty well sum's it up! Watching someone who knows how to get the most out of a surface floating stickbait is magic. These things dart underwater, splash and look too good..  Same lure in the hands of someone with less experience or the wrong gear - forget it.

Sinking stickbaits are very versatile, and with a bit more weight and inbuilt action are a good place to start.

I am a fan of those too, mean value for money and easy to use.  The rover on the other hand annoys me how it gets too active and jumps back and hooks itself on the leader, maybe I am just sweeping too hard.
I have found the rover  works  really well with short stabs...it zig zags back and forth really nice!

 I beg to differ.... having caught plenty in the 'Upper Northland" area "Myself" on both styles. Some days one will out fish the other but both styles certainly catch there fare share of fish, require different actions. but they do both work as well as each other.
