Ok haven't changed Braid yet but shortened up leader as above and also had a friend help me with a PR knot.

Threw a fair few casts today and no problems even when i had a wrap around the spool so looks like things are improvingThumbs Up

Thanks for the tips and suggestions i will change braid after i have given this a good hammering.

I use depthfinder and various not probs at all for casting, havnt tryed suffix though, personal dont think i like the stiffer braids. My couple of suggestions would be;
check your guides for chips or cracks
change your leader length, If your not already, shorten leader so no wraps on the reel and leader stops just above your casting finger.
The reel may be the prob, I have not used this reel but if not braid friendly ive seen reels have all sorts of probems tangles etc.
Yip and change to a twisted leader with bimini.

The better Braids are soft and limp like Virivas and YGK, the next best (my personal casting favorite] are Tufline XP and Gerry Brown.

Braid seems to often break at a much lower breaking strain when it has been knotted, as opposed to unknotted.
 Hollow core JB might be the answer? It breaks well above the stated strength, and can utilise a wind on sleeved leader, doing away with knots. The JB 60 I purchased is the same diameter as a few 80lb Braids I have purchased in the past, but has a higher breaking strength.
 Not cheap, but when you loose some lineyou can splice in a replacement length.

Dont worry it happens with with $200 spools if you get it wrong also...tie your leader to somthing solid ie Car towbar and take a few wraps arpound a gloved hand,give it a quick jerk and see where it is breaking,Im not suprised if it is you braid not your knot.

A mate and I sat in a tackle shop with scales and many different braids,none of them like shock (no stretch) but some were shocking - we had your braid (type) break around 7kg when jerked!
 
While this may not be scientific and absolute it does show what a mono shock leader can do to save/reduce terminal tackle loss when things go pear shaped or that biieeeg fish hits your bait..

you need to look at a stiffer braid if your wanting cast-ability, a soft line "flaps" as the knot goes through the guides causing tangles around the guides.
 
i agree with this, i had the same thing happen to me a while back from the braid often tangling in the guides with my softbait set and small poppers. was real frustrating. i changed the braid, problem fixed.

Good to hear hookerpuka.  My boy is 18 months old and is really interested in fish.  Brought a little bait catcher so going to take him down to the wharf soon to see what he thinks.
