Bob Ash on Lucky Strike had a nice black take a livey off Doubtless Bay in about 150m on the first day of the comp but didn't get a hookup, wonder if it was the same fish.
 
We tagged a stripy about 100 kg on the thursday and landed a 102kg stripy on the Saturday. Both fish on live skippy's, the first off Knuckle Point and the other off Ahipara.
 
The winning stripy came from Ahipara and they had forgotten the harness and gimble so the young fellow had to fight it for an hour or so with no harness or gimble, then another boat gave them one (well done to those guys). Great fish really fat. Incidently the second heaviest stripy (143 kg) was caught by a 12 year old who also tagged 2 stripys.

I heard the it was a nice black around the 260kg mark to the boat Firebird, had just dropped the mother in law off at monganui and were heading back out then Wham its all on !   Awesome effort for the old fellas on board ....Clap
