    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=47682">of2fsh</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 51099<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 26 Feb 2010 at 11:06pm<br /><br />for deep water fishing i use 37kg braid with a windon leader,on the end a ball bearing swivel&nbsp; and a egg sinker.The trace is 3 mtrs of 130pd bm hard trace ,this gives about 10mtrs of mono on the end of the braid.Hooking the fish you have to be a bit gentler,when you get a bite let the fish run a few mtrs then slowly push drag to strike and lift rod loading it up,if you hit the fish hard with an agressive strike you will pull the hook due to no line stretch..it took a while to get used to but its working better for me personally than mono]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=47999">dirtyharry</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 51099<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 26 Feb 2010 at 8:19pm<br /><br />Stick to the standard braid to shock leader tied with Bimini/yucutan knot and shock leader tied to swivel and trace.&nbsp; Thread the sinker thru the shock leader before tieing to the swivel but drill out the sinker first so that if the main line breaks the knots will still pass thru the sinker and not drown the fish.<br>The alternative is to tie the sinker to the top eye of the swivel with a very light trace, eg 2kg, so that it can break off easily.<br>]]>

Personally I wouldn't have a sinker running on braid if targeting big fish. My choice would be 37kg braid to swivel, swivel to&nbsp; mono ( a little lighter than the braid and trace because you dont want a fish towing around a sinker for a death sentence) &amp; swivel between heavy mono (1metre or so) and 80 to 120lb trace. Have the sinker between the two swivels and cushion it with a soft bead either side. Alternatively fish it on the surface doing away with the sinker. Any one else feel free to offer your advice.&nbsp;]]>

This was on an Epic trip.<br><br>So, this seems to go against my understanding as mono seems to be the line of choice.<br><br>So how do you this?<br>Where would you put a sinker; on the braid? (would that not wear through the line?)<br>Would you still use a swivel?<br>I have been told that live baiting with braid that the line can get into a mess.<br><br>BTW only planning to live bait in the Gulf, the channels seem to have a lot of kingi's hanging around at the moment.<br><br>Cheers<br><br>&nbsp;<br><br>]]>
