Apparently its fairly flat although i remember it getting snagged every so often. We used to get quite a few terakihi and even boarfish along with the usual snapper, trevs, moki and kahawai. My little bro has dived a few calm days out there too but said they were fairly featureless, mostly big rocks without many cracks or holes for crays. Surely must be some good ground out there somewhere though. I've always found that area to fish best just before sunrise.

Its a mint piece of coastline, we've got a leasehold batch at Pataua South and learnt to fish/dive/surf etc there growing up. Its such a good access point to the coast with sheltered spots from wind from the north through the west to straight southerly.

yeah mean place aye bakes, i used to spend alot time up there also, my mates family have also got a lease hold batch up there in pataua south which theve had for 20 or so years heading towards the bridge on the right, hes one back from the big old green school house opposite the mud flats there, ..

Mates been living in the uk for a while so dont get up there much anymore!!

Last week, 1 of the family left Kaitaia with his mate, out on the east side, back within 2 hours with their limit, all around 10 - 12 lbs. It is slow lately where I mainly fish, Pakiri out to the mokes, it is very patchy. Still, it is better than work. And it will get better, Cheers.
