There is a stiff easterly flow going on for the next couple of days which could make the drift difficult - got a big drougue? Maybe further up the Rangi Channel you can pick up some shelter from Rangi. My prime recommendation would be to head over to Waiheke and drift from Matiatia Bay down in around 17 - 19m (look for the sign). You will get good shelter from the wind. Once you have been pushed too far out from Waiheke then motor back in again. Top soft bait fishing with nearly all snapper but a few trevs and kings around as well. Try from the Rangi lighthouse drifting back up the harbour, likewise off home bay drifting back down the Motohui Channel. I got nice fish both places on Thursday albeit on an outgoing tide. Going to try fishing in auckland for the first time!!!
 
Have not fished the waitemata harbour before and launching from Okahu Bay and need some advice.  Where will be a good place to start when fishing the in-coming tide?  Want to try out some soft plastics and a bit of bait fishing.  Just after a feed of snapper and preferably not to much boat traffic.
 
Might float a livey at the back of the boat under a balloon for a stray kingieLOL
