I stayed in close. The current was ripping thru in 9m. Plenty of bait sign with not much else around, except throwbacks
Before top of the tide I got some snaps to mid 30s on fresh macks... all released then it stopped for me around high tide
Soft baited while dragging a slider, snagged the slider then pulled up a rock with shellfish on it.
Marked that spot then kept going, paddled back in
Went out again for last few hours of the outgoing, all undersize = skunking

Sat morning perfect conditions again... went straight to the snagged spot.
First drop, fish in the bin straight away & that was it for the next 2hrs, few undersize went back, kept some fresh macks but was very quiet - now what
Paddled around, found some nice reef structure under a cliff face. Up comes a gill bleeder just over legal, kept for the bin then the tide changes
Paddled to the other end of the reef for the outgoing. First drop with fresh mack baits, a good line puller on my 4kg mono setup. The fish stayed high in 5m, pulled more line a few more times then slid in the net
Enough fish for me, headed back in. Couple low - mid 40s & a nice conditioned 63cm

Wind was supposed to pick up about 9am but it was glass as we paddled out as the sun came up. Unfortunately that was probably the best part . Fishing was very tuff. The thick cloud never let the sun come through and after 2hrs of casting softies we were both pretty cold. Lots of tail grabbers and a few undersized released we made the last cast call at least 10 times. We came across a patch and I landed 2 @40cm fish and the young fella managed to make one stick , to small to keep but big enough to raise his spirits. A real testing day that makes the good days special. Fresh air, good exercise and feed so can't complain. Taking the young fella up north in a couple weeks for a private yak comp so all good practice. 👍

After susing it out couple weeks ago the plan was made for me and the young fella to get out there. Unfortunately the weather changed so I went alone and promised him we would go the next day. It was a slow morning but managed a couple snaps and very surprisingly a gurnad , havnt caught one on a softbait for years.

28th September absolutely stunning morning with no wind , first trip out with the 10 year old since April and we were straight into the fish. Heaps of small snapper and a few kahawai . He managed a few keppers but was more interested in a photo with the kahawai as he had never caught one. The wind picked up and we had to paddle back into 12knt winds . Offered to hook up and tow him in but he wouldn't let me. Was a very slow paddle home and when the wind gusted we were going backwards but he did it all on his own. 45min paddle back.

11 October, back to the same spot and it was a slow morning with together, after a few hours of casting frustration was setting in. I was catching the odd fish but he kept dropping them. He kept his nerve and not long after he landed a bigger fish than me a 40cm snap then a 35cm snap. It was time to come in and he was stoked . Building strength with his paddling as well, he was able to keep pace all the way back to shore.
Young fella thinks he's pro now..... good time ahead

Was up very early and paddleing out in twilight, still haven't replaced the sounder so studied a chart and had a rough idea where i wanted to set up a drift line. Was straight into the snaps with lots of throw backs and every fifth one or so worth keeping. Was drifting quickly as the wind was strong so paddled back to start point and in real close to beach, about 200m off beach and in about 4m of water I did a second drift parallel with beach and picked up a good feed biggest going 40cm. Fish were all in real good condition. So good seeing some new scenery with a bin full of fish and far less distance to paddle.
