Rod use - trolling, bottom fishing, suspended slow jig, rod storage while underway or unhooking, etc)</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>There are a number of options for the Scotyy brand rod-holders themselves -&nbsp;I see the Rodmaster 250 version recommended in this thread with a gimbal pin (I assume gimbal pin is to lock rod and also, as it can be removed, to allow the rod to slide deeper in the holder?</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Wondering if any one has used any of the 10 or so other Scotty rod holders (Orca, RodmasterII, Powerlock, Striker, etc) - ease of use, prefernce, reasons why&nbsp;etc etc</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Any thoughts appreciated</DIV>]]>

They are good to get that low angle setting on your rods when targeting big snaper, which lets the line peel off with out resistance <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Kiwifred - everything on the Profish needs to be flush mounted or it gets torn off with wind at the speed we paddle<img src="http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/smileys/smiley4.gif" height="17" width="17" border="0" alt="Big%20smile" /></DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>NM</DIV>]]>

Not much better in the surf but I de-rig before all surf. <br /><br />There is the advantage of price and less wind drag with the flush mounted regular style rod holders but when you're my size thats all out the window.<br /><br />I mainly use the scotty because I do like having the ability to adjust the angles of the rod. ]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=48923">Rainbow</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 28215<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 28 Mar 2008 at 2:27pm<br /><br /><P>Erik</P><P>I hate anything sticking out that could get knocked off in the surf and that IMHO includes a Scotty not to mention the tripple candle holder version.</P><DIV>The problem with the Prowlers is that the forward centre mounting recess has the nut inserts spaced for a Scotty.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Since I wanted a flush&nbsp;rod holder&nbsp;for trolling and to store the rod when taking off a fish I had to call on the plastic welders to add a piece of poly to the foot and&nbsp; close the existing screw holes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; After that I drilled new holes to match the top nut inserts.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I used Nylex nuts for the other two.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>One more thing if you go down this track get a right angle holder not the slanted one.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I&nbsp;initially&nbsp;used the slanted one on the slanted deck of my old P13 and had the rod coming out vertically.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Looked great&nbsp;that is until I hooked a KY, which jammed the rod so hard that I couldn't get it out.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The right angle one fixed that problem because the rod always slants back.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Rainbow&nbsp;&nbsp;</DIV>]]>

Yourswould sit pretty high in the middle point of the prowler too out of the waves yeah?&nbsp; It also has a cap that goes over the top when you take the holder out. <br><br>On another note had it about a year and no rust on the stainless at all and the baitholder strap looks in good nick. The baitholder style has worked well for spinning and overhead reels although it's within arms reach on the right side, not in the middle as you plan which may make the strap a little tricky to get off.<br><br>Cheers<br>]]>
