Popped out at about 3:30pm yesterday with a mate, usual zone and method. 10 snapper and 5 gurnard. The biggest snap we got (55cm) was definitely ready for spawning, milt coming out of him as I netted him. I should be able to get out end of October. The nephew been out virtually every weekend over winter and has done well. It seems the snapper in the Firth didnt go deep for long. he has been fishing Orere pt and done well using S/B only. 7 to 8m depth,only once did he have to go out to the 35m mark.

Gave it another nudge today with a mate on the outgoing, launched around 10am, headed toward wellington rock and caught a kahawai which we put out under a balloon and slow trolled around the pins but no kings about. Tried for a snap on the edge of tiri channel but dead quiet. Shot back in towards Waiwera and started drifting in about 17m with yellow sliders, 14 snaps kept by 3pm. No prizes for guessing how and where, this one went 67CM and unfortunately wouldn't revive - was a long fight on 10lb gear.Yellow was the winner again today.

Can confirm the method still works - they were keen on yellow this afternoon - despite the poor bite times we managed 11 snapper and 3 decent gurnard between 2pm and 5:30pm.
