I've only ever caught crays overnight (lower east coast Nth Isl). Those pots on trade me look just the business. At $160 ready to fish he won't be making a fortune. The time release annode lets you set your pot with a loop of rope holding the float under water, the annode dissolves and releases your float after 24 hrs. This stops those theiving mongrels taking your crays or pot. Seems like a good idea, I've never used one though.

Ok just had a quick search and read the following, looks like crays are smarter critters than I thought....................

Sounds like pots work best if they have been in the sea for a while, is this a colour or odour problem or both?

If I had a wire pot would painting it brown and running a few flax leaves thru it help? (I read on here of people camo-ing pots with flax or even a bit of seaweed).

Also read that maybe crays don't like the springy netting, can anyone running both types of pots confirm that the nonfolders are better?

also someone made the point that square pots work better than round ones, supposedly crays will back into a corner and stay put but will keep swimming in a circular pot till they find the escape holes? I know the commercial guys use square pots but is this just because they are easier to make? Anyone had success with round pots?
What are peoples thoughts on this, true or false?

Also read that red fish make the best cray baits, what makes the best cray bait?

look good but expensive, I'm guessing the anodes are  to reduce corrosion? but why would you use a time release anode?

Anyone tried the collapsible craypots from trademe? there are two models the round ones and the alloy square ones. They look pretty flimsy, does the synthetic netting get ripped up pretty quick? Alternatively there are some good looking ones made out of number eight wire which although non-folding look ****-loads sturdier.

I'm from the deep south (Dunners) anyone tried these pots out down this way? How long would you expect to leave them out for to pick up a cray or two? best to leave them overnight? any point in chucking them in for a few hours early in the day whilst fishing?
