You can get access at low water and fish the incoming for a few hours and if you are prepared to wait for the tide you can even sit it out on the island for the duration. It drops off on its northern side and we have picked up the odd kingi around this point (boat fishing) in the summer months. Snapper, JDs, Trevs, Kahawai and sharks mostly bronzies visit the harbour during the year along with some big rays. Over the other side of the harbour is another point on an island with a shallow causeway for access at low water (Casnell Island ?) and it can produce good fishing around Feb and March.

At the top of the hill before you enter the park there is an information board and a track leading down to the beach (Cudlip Point and Te Muri Bay). This beach and the point are also worth a fish especially in the evenings around Feb and March.

Have you tried the back of the Waiwera Island? Good kelp beds on the northern side.

Damian
