National Research Bureau recreational trial Tēnā koe Fisheries New Zealand’s biggest recreational fishing survey, the National Panel Survey, is undertaken by independent research company The National Research Bureau (NRB) every 5-6 years.   NRB are in the process of exploring new ways to conduct this research ahead of the next National Panel Survey in 2027/28 or 2028/29 and are looking for people who would like to take part in this important work. This trial is being independently undertaken by NRB, and data collected is solely for the purpose of determining if a new email questionnaire would be more efficient, while continuing to provide robust information on recreational marine fishing activity throughout the country.   The trial will be undertaken over the course of the next summer fishing season, and Fisheries New Zealand encourages members of our recreational fishing community to take part.   If you choose to participate, once enrolled, you will receive an email every Sunday night from October onwards with a link to a short questionnaire about any marine fishing you’ve done over the previous week. If you haven’t fished, you will be able to answer ‘no’ to the first question. If you have fished, the questionnaire should take less than five minutes.   NRB have developed a practice questionnaire which you can find here: nrbnz.questionpro.com/fishingpractice. The practice questionnaire shows what you will be asked about your fishing (or diving/gathering) activity, and you can take it as many times as you want so you know what to expect.   To enroll in the trial, head to nrbnz.questionpro.com/enrolment where you’ll be asked for some quick information about you as well, including your contact details. It will take about a minute.
